The airport is on reclaimed land, not more than a kilometer from the shoreline. The airport was previously the home of the Portuguese Air Force, but on 17 April 2006 it was returned to Macau and became the first airport owned by Macau. The airport is now operated by the Airports Authority of Macao. Macau International Airport is a single terminal serving regional routes. Good ground transport options to Macau city.
